Shawn Mendes “Why Why Why & Isn’t That Enough” Single(s) Release

Shawn Mendes gave eagerly waiting fans their first taste of his highly anticipated fifth studio album, ‘Shawn The Album’. Shockingly, it is a second self-titled album, due to be released on October 18! This follows his 2020 release ‘Wonder’ as well as Mendes’ previous self-titled project in 2018 titled ‘Shawn Mendes’.

The Canadian pop star unveiled two tracks, “Why Why Why” and “Isn’t That Enough”, on August 8, a special day—his 26th birthday!

Prior to the release of the songs, he also announced a limited run of intimate shows in all the places where the new album was written. Titling the mini tour “For Friends and Family Only”. I was lucky enough to score tickets to the show in Brooklyn, New York, on the night of the album release!

'Isn't That Enough' stands out as a meditation on acceptance and the search for peace amidst chaos. Shawn openly acknowledges his weaknesses but also celebrates the strength found in the love and patience of those around him. His candid portrayal of his emotional struggles over the last few years has transformed his vulnerability into a powerful force, which contributes to the song's emotional impact.

Since the release of ‘Wonder’ four years ago, Mendes’ songwriting style has evolved in terms of complexity and depth. ‘Wonder’ explored a broader spectrum of emotions and themes related to love and self-discovery, while it seems this upcoming album is characterized by raw emotion, the complexities of life and relationships, and a search for answers. This kind of raw honesty invites listeners into his world and resonates deeply with them, fostering a strong sense of comfort, connection, and empathy.

From the first line of the song to the last, ‘Why Why Why’ is a series of personal reflections, shifting between moments of doubt and exposing his inner turmoil. He speaks about opening up his journal and feeling empty, about the pressure of performing on stage despite the toll it takes on his mental health. However, while it’s exhausting, he tries to understand that music is also a vital part of his life, and he wants to feel joy from it. To his fans, this provides a raw and honest look at his insecurities and the weight of expectations he has felt during his hiatus, revealing a deeply personal side of himself that most public figures and artists prefer to keep hidden.

Mendes' willingness to share his true self through music ultimately reveals a strength of character that transcends traditional notions of masculinity. Which I know will surely inspire others to embrace their own vulnerabilities without fear of judgement or misunderstanding.
While most of his previous works fall under the contemporary pop umbrella, It seems “Shawn The Album” will lean more towards folk elements to create a more organic and acoustic sound that Shawn himself has not previously explored. Leaving fans like me even more excited to hear what’s to come!

Ultimately, Shawn Mendes' music serves as a mirror reflecting the complexities of the human experience. His journey is one of self-discovery, artistic exploration, and a relentless pursuit of authenticity. As he continues to evolve, it will be exciting to witness the next chapter in his musical story and I absolutely cannot wait to be along for the ride! It has been almost 10 years since the first time I saw Shawn Mendes live in concert, I feel like I have grown up with him and he has helped me through the tough times in my life just as we fans have helped him through his hard times. Its been quite the decade and i can’t wait for many more decades of music to come!

Stream “Why Why Why” and ‘Isn’t That Enough” now!
