“The Idea Of You” Movie Soundtrack Review
PSA! I am here to tell you about my new current obsession and comfort movie/soundtrack! If you haven’t heard about it by now, allow me to indulge you!
The recently released movie “The Idea of You” is based on the hugely popular fiction novel by Robinne Lee. It is rumored to also be loosely inspired by Harry Styles/One Direction. Academy Award Winning actress, Anne Hathaway plays Solène Marchand, a 40-year-old recent divorcee who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old pop-star, Hayes Campbell played by Nicholas Galitzine. In the film he’s the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet. When Solène steps in to chaperone her teenage daughter’s trip to the coveted Coachella Music Festival after her ex-husband bails at the last minute. While searching for the restroom trailer, she has a chance encounter with Hayes and there is an irresistible and instant undeniable spark. Shortly after their meet-cute they begin a whirlwind romance, it isn’t long before Hayes’ superstar status poses unavoidable challenges to their relationship, and Solène soon discovers that life in the glare of his spotlight might be more than she bargained for.
An astonishing statistic arose before the film’s world premiere as the trailer alone for “The Idea of You” racked up over 125 Million global views across all social media platforms, breaking the record for the most watched trailer for any original streaming movie in history.
Since its release on Prime Video, the age-gap romantic adventure, has attracted a whopping 50 million worldwide viewers! Leading the film to become Amazon MGM and Prime Video’s best performing rom-com film of all time, according to the studio.
“The Idea of You” soundtrack is also quickly receiving positive buzz across social media for capturing the iconic boy-band energy and swoon-worthy emotions of the film.
Savan Kotecha and Carl Falk, hit makers for One Direction and other pop stars, brought their songwriting expertise to the table for the movie. Their work on the soundtrack not only channels the film’s central romance plot but provides a depth to the lyrics reflecting the complexities of the film's characters and their relationships throughout.
The writing duo avoided simply rehashing well-known past hits, while still including the infectious energy and singalong choruses which define the ultimate boy band sound and experience. Separately, it also includes bonus acoustic versions of key songs offering a more intimate feel for fans to enjoy.
The ‘August Moon’ songs have a fresh, new, authentic feel thanks in part to the influence of contemporary pop music and lead actor, Nicholas Galitzine's singing experience. This blend of familiarity and imagination makes the soundtrack both catchy and reminiscent of popular boy bands, but with enough originality to stand out.
Overall, “The Idea of You” soundtrack has been a massive success for fans of the novel, movie and pop music in general. If you enjoyed the film, the soundtrack is a great way to continually relive those moments and recapture the emotions portrayed on screen. The catchy tunes will likely get stuck in your head for weeks on end and will offer more than just surface-level entertainment. I know these will absolutely be the songs of the summer this year!
Whether you're a die-hard fan of boy-band mania as I am! Or simply just enjoy the film itself, this soundtrack is definitely 100% worth checking out. I mean, at this point I think we all wish this iconic fictional boy-band was real!
