Music Midtown Festival Experience
I think maybe I should start with my rating of my experience and explain why I gave it that rating below.
Contrary to popular belief, my very first Music Midtown experience was easily like a 3/10. Here’s why.
Unfortunately this was the not the experience/review I was hoping I would be writing, but I don’t want to lie to my audience or followers and say everything was amazing. The truth is it was far from amazing. To start at the beginning of the story, it rained pretty much the whole weekend from start to finish; which means when we wanted to take cute pictures we had to make it quick as we were already being rained on as soon as we entered the festival grounds. Though I didn’t know many of the first day artists we didn’t get to the festival until almost 5pm, which in festival time is considered fairly late.
Something I have noticed about highly publicized music festivals is social media paints a false narrative. Apps such as Instagram and Twitter definitely make things look amazing and like tons of fun which I do believe it can be if you have the right people around you.
I came into this experience open minded and extremely excited to see multiple of my favorite artists including The Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5, and Miley Cyrus along the 2 day stretch. However, partially because of the rain, it became much more stressful than I was anticipating. Unfortunately the only artist I saw a full set from the entire weekend was Meg The Stallion, not that her set wasn’t a blast I was just super disappointed that I left that weekend without seeing full sets from the artists I came to see. Not to mention, some of the biggest name bands were scheduled to perform at the same time, so you didn’t even have a way to choose. It came to an unfortunate compromise of time split between both bands. This was something I was definitely not a fan of. I wanted my money’s worth of performances and I didn’t feel like that was achieved over my time at Music Midtown.
My favorite sets, though I didn’t see the entire way through either one, was definitely between Maroon 5 or Jonas Brothers. I just know from previous experiences at shows that the Jo Bros are always a good time. Then for my first time I watched Maroon 5, lead singer Adam Levine, took the stage with no shirt on; which I definitely was not going to complain about, while singing all of his hit classics (excluding Misery) which I still question how.
One thing my audience should know about me is I am a massive concert junkie, music is better than any kind of drug or alcohol. If you can sing and dance like crazy, then you and everyone around you have something in common. One of the most important things I took away from this learning experience was who you surround yourself with at festivals is a huge factor in your overall experience. It can be make or break. Make sure you are with friends who enjoy music, are willing to come rain or shine and be just as open-minded and excited as you are. Without that, I promise the experience will not be as pleasant or as fun as it could potentially be. I’m sorry this review isn’t at all what I thought it would be, but hey better luck next year right?
XOXO,
Rachel
