Jonas Brothers ‘The Album’ Review
A mere 18 years after first launching their career in 2005, America’s favorite brother band, The Jonas Brothers are back with a brand-new album! Not only is it an album, it is THE ALBUM! As they embark upon THE TOUR, as their own version of the ‘Eras Tour’, performing all their albums across the world. I want to share my thoughts about these new songs before I see the show live myself as I have been a fiercely loyal fan of the band since 2007 at the tender age of 7 years old. Standing in front of my tv jamming to Year 3000 in between Disney Channel commercials, to now being 23 years of age, and still jamming to Year 3000, but this time, they will be on a stage in front of me and you!!
When I heard the first single “Wings” I was instantly captivated by the groovy bouncing beat, it brings back memories of myself as that 7-year-old girl jumping on my bed and dancing to their songs around my room, while simultaneously singing into my hairbrush! Even today nothing has changed, I am still that girl!
This was until the song ended and I was disappointed when I realized the song was under 2 minutes long. However, this was quite a smart idea on their part because it was a good taste of what the new music to come would be, leaving fans like me on a cliffhanger wanting more. If you are reading this review, clearly, it worked. I’ve listened to ‘The Album’ on a loop many times over and maybe listening to it as I write this… The world may never know!
One of the many criticisms I have read about this album from other reviews is the collection of songs isn’t cohesive and in some respects, I do agree but for me, it shows they have a lot more variety than the regular pop hits we are all accustomed to. Also when it comes to artists writing albums about moments and thoughts throughout their lives, life is chaotic and not always cohesive and that is what “The Album” is, an insight into where they all are individually in their lives. The Jonas Brothers have even said they wanted to make an album that would make people feel happy and carefree, and with this, they definitely succeeded. Why fit in when you can stand out?
This collection of works to me is reminiscent of DNCE-style hits with a mix of Nick Jonas’s R&B style. (DNCE was Joe Jonas’s former band from his solo career). Even including a feature from fellow singer/songwriter Jon Bellion on the last track titled Walls. ”The Album” stands out and separates itself from everything they have done as a band thus far, including recording one of the songs in front of a live audience titled Little Bird written specifically for their daughters.
My top three favorite songs from “The Album” are Montana Sky, Little Bird, and Vacation Eyes. They have one common denominator equivalent to my own life, which is, love and family. I guess that’s two common denominators but who’s counting anyway!
Overall, "The Album" is a fun and enjoyable listen. The Jonas Brothers have once again delivered fantastic songs that are sure to make you want to dance, sing, and fall in love. I mean what else could you ask for?
I absolutely cannot wait to relive my childhood as I dance my heart out along with them at THE TOUR this fall! If you are thinking about buying that ticket to see them live, all I can say is do it! You will not regret it!
In case you have not heard The Album, I have attached some of the songs below!
