Olivia Rodrigo ‘Vampire’ Single Review

Olivia Rodrigo's strongly anticipated new single "Vampire" was finally released. It is the leading single from her upcoming second studio album, titled ‘Guts’, hence the Vampire reference. The album is due to be released later this year on September 8, 2023.

The song is a pop-rock tune with a dark vibe and edgy sound. It is driven by piano and may sound like a ballad until the chorus pops in with rock instrumentation, consisting of electric guitars and synthesizers. The lyrics are about a toxic relationship where Olivia is comparing a former flame to a vampire. They are draining her energy, leaving her feeling empty.

The music video for the single was directed by acclaimed director Petra Collins and premiered along with the song immediately following its release. The stunning video features Rodrigo in a variety of haunting and “Twilight-esque” settings, including a forest, and a Los Angeles highway overpass. The video has been praised for its visuals (paralleling scenes from Twilight) and its depiction of the song's dark themes. The music video reached 300,000 views upon its first minute of release on YouTube, and has spectacularly amassed over 15 million views in its first 24 hours on the site.

The song has been quickly adored by fans all over the world for its catchy melody, and extremely powerful vocals. It has already been a commercial success, immediately reaching number one instantly in not only the United States but many other countries and continents.

As of now, across all streaming platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify, on its first day, ‘Vampire’ has amassed 30 million streams. This has marked her biggest debut of all time.

‘Vampire’ is now also the biggest debut for a female solo song on Global Spotify in 2023 thus far!! This song is an extremely promising start for Olivia Rodrigo's highly anticipated second studio album.
