Lil Nas X Montero Album Review

The highly anticipated Montero album by Lil Nas X has finally made its iconic entrance in typical Lil Nas fashion. The album campaign itself of Lil Nas appearing to be “pregnant” with Montero was definitely comedic but also one of the more unique campaigns I have seen by an artist. Lil Nas X takes full advantage of being an openly gay artist by creating visuals that are not only funny but he makes a bold statement as seen in his music video for “Call me by your Name.” As I’m currently doing my first full album listen, I don’t normally care for rap music but Montero is a good mix of pure pop hits and rap songs, including a song featuring the ultimate legend Elton John. However, after a second listen of the song Elton John doesn’t actually sing in the song which is kind of disappointing; turns out he is playing the piano in the background, a true bummer. The album features Doja Cat, Elton John, Meg the Stallion and Miley Cyrus. Besides Elton John, Lil Nas includes popular Gen Z artists that attract a younger audience. I can see this being a fun party album or even festival performance for sure. My favorite song is “Am I Dreaming ft. Miley Cyrus.” The calming tune is everything and more.
Overall I think I would rate this album a solid 7/10, I think his statement and campaign of the album is hilarious but content wise because I don’t really listen to rap music, I don’t see myself gravitating towards listening to this album often.
