Ed Sheeran ”=” Album Review
Ed Sheeran has returned!! 2 years since he dropped his collaborations album and dropping off the grid the worlds greatest lyricist has put out a new work of art. Sticking with his theme of albums being titled after math symbols +, x , ÷, and now =. This album features 14 tracks! With a new perspective on life since getting married to his childhood sweetheart and becoming a father = takes on a focus on how life can change so much but still seem the same. The first track titled “Tides” even declares how life is like tides going high and low; a reference to his new role as a father.
Something complaints I have come across about Ed Sheeran over the years, is how many songs on his last few albums have been what young people consider “radio hits” and not his classic acoustic sound. As I listened through this new release I have definitely heard more remnants of what Ed Sheeran is best known for with this album, laid back ballads just him and his guitar. He even includes a tear jerker titled “Visiting Hours” which he debuted in August of this year; dedicated to a long time friend of his, Australian producer and music mogul Michael Gudinski. As I sit here listening on repeat, I struggle to find words to describe my feelings but just know I have tears in my eyes.
For years I have followed Sheeran’s career before he even debuted in the US, he once was the writer behind iconic songs for One Direction more than a decade ago. With each album he releases his music only continues to advance. Going from songs about drunken nights partying out in the streets to embracing his adulthood. I want to sit at a candlelit dinner and lay under the stars while blasting =! This album truly doesn’t miss a beat, there’s a song for every emotion whether it be passion, sadness, excitement etc. This is my favorite Ed Sheeran album to date, it only makes me love him that much more. I’ve gotten the incredible opportunity to see him live twice and does this make me want to see him a million times over again? Absolutely!
Overall this album is definitely a 10/10, I mean it tips the scales!
