Elton John Lockdown Sessions Album Review
This is a release that I have been looking forward to for a while now, I have grown up being a huge Elton John fan and it has carried into my now adulthood years. Lockdown Sessions is an album that was written during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 as everything was in lockdown. Don’t mind the pun. A lot of artists were left to record in their own homes over virtual meetings, hence where the idea was born. Elton John being neighbors with singer-songwriter Charlie Puth decided to record a song together during quarantine; Puth then gave Elton the idea to collaborate with other artists and create an album out of it.
Something I love about this project is the variety of music genres between each song. The songs don’t just stick to what Elton is most known for, the songs feature a multitude of instruments and styles range from remixes to rock, pop, and even rap. Elton John not only worked with classic singers such as Stevie Wonder and Stevie Nicks but he has quite the arrangement of young artists too; Charlie Puth, Miley Cyrus, Dua Lipa, Lil Nas X etc. Musically what Elton John has done flawlessly is keep his music relevant with the times, his career has never had a slow or dull moment. Lockdown Sessions is a body of work that will appeal to many different kinds of listeners for their is a song for every emotion and genre.
As I listened through this work of art I found myself getting emotional during some of the songs, the lyrics got to me, that is one of my favorite parts of listening to Elton John. As one of the best lyricists of our time Elton’s music is very interpretive. This album is no different. Overall I would rate this album a 7/10.
