Lana Del Rey Blue Banisters Album Review
I have to be honest I have never been the biggest fan of Lana Del Rey but I was intrigued with all of the talk surrounding this album, her second release of the year. Blue Banisters seems to be a description reference of her childhood home as she discloses vulnerable memories of being a child. Lana Del Rey has never shied away from sharing struggles from her past but she has also never gone into depth about it either. The songs are very scaled back mostly highlighting her voice rather than being a grand performance as her past music has been. The color blue is not only a major theme on this album it has hidden meanings within each song. The color blue itself stands for wisdom, Lana Del Rey makes this apparently clear as she shares her wisdom through music. She ultimately is a storyteller, as most singer-songwriters are.
Just recently Del Rey decided to deactivate her social media pages just to focus on her music and ignore all the negativity surrounding her personal opinions online. She allowed for her album to speak for itself instead of her having to defend herself via instagram. The interlude track on this album is the first step away from the folk style songs that take charge of the track-list. Blue Banisters is what I would describe as romantic, songs about wanting to fall in love with soothing tones. I could picture hearing some of these songs in the background of a romance movie for sure. There is no doubt this is one of Lana Del Rey’s most emotional works of art yet! Definitely not a radio-esque type of album but none-the-less lyrically fabulous! Overall I would give this album a 7/10.
