KJ Apa Clocks Album Review

The star of Archie comics revival Riverdale, KJ Apa, has released a surprise debut album! Featuring an emotional tribute song titled “Song For Luke” dedicated to his co-star Luke Perry. A longtime Hollywood actor, who played Archie’s (KJ Apa) father in the hit series, after his sudden tragic passing in 2019.

The album title itself refers to time passing and wanting to turn back the clock to go back in time. It has a very unique sound I was not expecting! From previous knowledge of following KJ on his social media platforms I knew he is an amazingly gifted guitar player. In the song “Crystal Angel” the song ends in a long John Mayer style guitar solo showcasing Apa’s skills. I would expect nothing less. KJ Apa himself is a native New Zealander and his accent is very clearly heard throughout most songs on the album which makes the songs unique in tone.
Clocks gives off an Indie vibe which is incredibly calming. When first listening I wasn’t sure how I felt about his voice and the accent but with each song I enjoy it more and more. With the guitar riffs and soothing background tunes it very much reminds me of John Mayer or Jason Mraz style music but with a fancy New Zealand twist! Definitely was not expecting to fall in love with this album as much as I did, but I am already putting it on repeat! During a gloomy rainy day you will find me sipping a hot cup of tea, watching the rain and playing “Clocks” over my speakers.

Overall this album is a 10/10 for me! Go stream Clocks!!!
