Lewis Capaldi “Broken by Desire to be Heavenly Sent” Album Review

If you are unfamiliar with Lewis Capaldi allow me to enlighten you on one of my more recent favorite artists, who I find to be extremely talented and totally underrated. Capaldi is known for his candid, self-deprecating humor, which endears him to his devoted fan-base. This past year he had to cancel all his live performances due to his battle with Tourette’s Syndrome.

Originally released in May 2023, but re-released as an extended version, featuring 5 new songs, on the first day of this new year. "Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent" is the second studio album by Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi.
It follows his hugely successful debut album, "Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent", which went on to become the best-selling album of 2019 in the UK.

This release was preceded by three singles: "Forget Me", "Pointless" and "Wish You the Best", all of which reached the top 10 in the UK Singles Chart. The album itself debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, and has since been certified platinum in the UK.

The album is a collection of introspective and emotionally raw songs which deal with themes many people can connect with. These include, love, loss, heartbreak, and self-doubt. Capaldi's vocals are one of the strongest aspects of the album and his powerful lyrics are more thought provoking than ever. His husky, soulful voice is often praised for raw emotion and ability to convey vulnerability.

Some of the standout tracks on the album include "Forget Me", a powerful ballad about heartbreak; "The Pretender", a catchy tune with relatable lyrics about trying to be who others want to see; and "Wish You the Best", a sincere and heartfelt message to an ex-lover.

My personal favorite is titled '“The Ancient Art Of Always F*cking Up.” It truly has some of the most creative analogies in the lyrics and I truly feel myself relating to all the things he is saying, when he talks about giving too much of himself in relationships. I think we have all probably felt that way at some point.

With introspective lyrics, this album is full of catchy melodies and goosebumps which will stay with you long after you've listened to it. His vocals truly never miss! I could listen to him sing all day long!

"Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent" is an incredibly strong and enjoyable record from Lewis Capaldi. It is sure to please fans of his debut album, and will win him over a whole new cadre of fans as well!! Happy Listening!!

-XOXO Rachel
