Tate McRae “She’s All I Wanna Be” Single Review

Tate McRae is back with a new hit! She teased the release for multiple days across all of her social media platforms including Instagram and Tik Tok. ‘She’s All I Wanna Be’ surrounds the idea of not being enough for someone. She sings in her pop-heavy lyrics,

“You want the girl with the small waist
And the perfect smile
Someone who's out every weekday
In her dad's new car
You tell me I shouldn't stress out
Say it's not that hard
But I just got a feeling
This'll leave an ugly scar”

I think everyone at a young age can relate to not feeling like they are enough and wanting to be more like the people around you. As it is said, we always want what we can’t have. McRae even references this line not only in the title of the track but lyrics within the song:

“She's got everything that I don't have
How could I ever compete with that?”

Upon listening to this song on a repeat loop it is reminiscent of recent hits from teen pop-star Olivia Rodrigo, with the head-banging drum beats and young, angsty lyrics. It had me picturing the early 2000s'; this would be the perfect tune to add as the cast of Mean Girls walked down the hallways of their school as their classmates look on wanting to be them. I think a lot of girls and even young women can share in the feelings McRae is referring to, most girls I know would admit to experiencing these feelings in their life at one point. I mean I have to ask is there anyone out there who wasn’t victimized by Regina George?

Overall I really loved this song, everything about it is incredibly catchy and fun. I know that for anyone who sees Tate McRae live, this will be a song to jam out too. I already know I’ll be cranking the volume in my car and dancing around my room for sure! At the age of just 18, McRae’s quick success with this song is worth all of the hype and more!

-XOXO Rachel
